breakfast with a red fox

a red fox just pranced by breakfasting us

ten feet from me and my tea

surprising enough

as I have been coming here for fifty years and seen but a few fox

darting across

a distant road,

how goosebumping then

to have asked my husband

a heartbeat before

to detail the hue

of two foxes he saw gambol

last week in the the back yard amidst the bramble and the branches,

my husband’s musing

turning fervid

pointing, enthusing:

” Look! Coming down the driveway!”

that moment

breathtaking

silent amber scampering

upon the morn’s silver quietude

and now

each time I walk down that path

to rinse my feet

and the day’s tired bathing suits

fox magic lingers:

discernment, heightened awareness, swiftly dodging obstacles and tricky situations

feeling lost?

call on fox

to help you find your way

he chuckled

over his knowing

haunches
