To Be The Best

Okay, so you want to be a writer. What does that mean? Do you set your goals to degrees? On a scale of one to ten, ten being the best writers ever, what do you shoot for?

For those of you who have no interest in writing, how about your reading? On a scale of one to ten what kind of book do you want to read? I think many of us would say that when it comes to what we want to read next we look for a book that WE find interesting or exciting. A story WE can get lost in and when it happens, it is a ten.

I want to write a book that I think is a ten. A story that engrosses me, one that I get lost in. Will I be honest enough with my own writing to review it well before sending it off? I guess all writers find out if and when their book is published. Can’t keep a good story down?

At the start of this post, I expected to become completely paralyzed just thinking about writing a ten. It didn’t happen. I take that as a good sign.

Always be confident in your ability, otherwise you would never try.

It’s the editing that kills it for me because I don’t like doing it. If you can stand that part of the job the battle is at least half done. Gone are the days when you could just dump a box of paper on an editor’s desk and say “here you go.”

I like the sound of the good old days.

I went to an author’s discussion group on “what is more important? The writing or the story. The result was a resounding “it has to be a good story first”. I look forward to reading your 10.

Thanks Irene, I find the earlier in a day I start the better. Now if I would just do that all the time.
